Home Barista
The plan is to understand the cleaning of your machine, get drinkable, consistent shots in the cup and perfect your milk frothing.
The small, non-plumbed in-home or office machine, could be semi-automatic, might have a built-in grinder, may or may not have the E61 group head. You’ll need to bring your machine and grinder, tamper, a favourite jug… we’ll supply the rest. If you do not have your own grinder, please state this on the form and we can provide one.
- $85 for one or $150 for two people on one machine.
- 1 ½ hours of fun, talking coffee.
- Home Barista Certificate + $10 bag of coffee to take home/machine.
- Class sizes are in groups up to 5 people.
Fun on a Commercial Machine
This is for those who have always wondered what it would be like to use a commercial machine.
You, friends or whanau can ‘have a play’ on one of our EXPOBAR espresso machines. By the end you will be able to sit at our table and proudly drink your own beverages.
- $150 for this class of 1 ½ hours of fun
- Maximum of 3 people.
Introductory Barista Certificate – 3 stage course
This is a one on one, 3 stage course for the individual who wishes to start out in the coffee industry.
You will cover the grind, extractions, texturing milk and the range of different coffee beverages. It is common knowledge that a great barista takes very good care of the cleaning and maintenance of their main tools of trade – the espresso machine and grinder. Most people can make a good coffee but to consistently pump out coffee after coffee for hours at a time will sort the good from the great baristas. In addition to the knowledge gained on this course you receive a barista guide to help with trouble shooting issues that may occur.
- By appointment only.
- 4 hours @ $250.
- Done as 2 x 1 ½ hours and 1 x 1 hour session.
Time on a machine / Building on The introductory course
Once you have completed our Introductory Barista Course.
Do you wish to grow experience and get some time on a commercial machine? We offer supervised 1 hour blocks.
- Time slots to be arranged prior by appointment.
- Mon – Thurs 1 – 3.30pm, Fri 1 – 2.30pm.
- $50 per person /hour.
